Autumn Arrives Early

September usually ushers in our best weather of the year....call it "Indian Summer" or "Early Autumn".... it generally is the warmest, bluest-sky time to visit San Francisco. Of course, as many of you know who follow my blog....this year has been different. No Spring..no Summer....

And today, more than a month before our rainy season usually begins....it rained. By the time I left my shift at the de Young, the rain had faded into drizzle... but all around me are the unmistakeable signs that Autumn is here. I was trying to capture not only the brilliant purple beauty of the flowers, but also the carpet of them already lying on the ground.... darn, I didn't quite nail it...

But, I did nail Mr. Squirrel, having his afternoon repast in Golden Gate Park, after a long day of burying nuts and other edibles to keep his tummy full during the long Autumn/Winter months.

I am ready for this most magical of Seasons! How about you?

Love,

♥ Robin

  1. Autumn is my favorite time - crisp weather, the smell of woodsmoke in the air, the smell of concord grapes and apples - it's the best

  3. Hi Robin! Those purple flowers suit your blog. :) Gorgeous color! And I love fall! I wish you were getting some much-needed sunny days. That is not fair! :) I will pack up a Mid-Atlantic fall day for you. They are pretty much perfect. I am hoping to get a few minutes to blog later today, and to think about decorating for Halloween! xox - Pam

  4. Becasue I spent 16 plus years on the central coast, I know exactly what you're talking about. September and October were always glorious months, blue sky sunny days and cool nights for perfect sleeping.

The entire nation's weather is three weeks ahead of schedule. Perhaps Mother Nature has hit menopause!!

I love the squirrel picture. You know who I'm going to show it to!

I hope you have a sunny Monday ;)

    love,
    lo♥

  8. What a good shot of that squirrel. Don't let Emma see it ;)
I really hope you will have a wonderful autumn Robin after those 2 disaster seasons.......
    My I would go nuts.
I suspect that autumn is different where you live. It is the worst season I know :(
But no fancy colors lots of rain and wind, that's how our autumns are...... Only brown and grey colors. I don't even like the smell of autumn, it smells like death.... But maybe I need to look at it differently..............
I am sorry if this sounds negative....
I will really try this year to keep my spirit and not to get depressed. I did very well last year so I will just try the same.
I always read that it the favorite season of a lot of people so maybe I can learn from them how to appreciate this season.....

Hope you get to see the sun and moon a lot dear!

  10. Loir - I was really lucky with Mr. Squirrel.....he MUST be a relative of KJ's Gregory Squirrel because he was NOT camera shy at all....I might have even been able to get a bit closer....but decided not to risk it....he was eating pretty fast!

NO FOG OR RAIN here today! Just had a lovely hike through the Presidio....all the fog was floating around the GG Bridge....I took some photos and will post soon. I HOPE SUN is out where you are!

    Love,

  13. Emiwee, no this is not Gwegory Squirrel - but it is his West Coast Cousin, Jerry! They both do share a love of posing in front of the camera! (Though they tell me neither of them loves the limelight like YOU, MS. Wabbit!

  15. Angela, thank you so much for thinking about my two friends tomorrow.... I confess I am very nervous for "S".....she is being so brave....and I am trying to be brave for her too... reading the theme of your post actually helped me feel positive about it all....

  16. Liebe Marianne.... I have only been to the Netherlands in Spring and Summer when everywhere is a riot of colour....but I imagine you do have a grayer Autumn than we do...and that can be depressing....still, your home and the town is so beautiful...you have made it a sacred haven - no matter what the weather is doing! You bring the colour INSIDE with your art (and now "Frida" will be there), your wonderful, wonderful animals and your loving family!

Of course.....you could come visit Lo or me..... ;)

It has been clear and warm here today....I am hoping the fog stays away tonight so I can have a moon sighting.

Kiss Sjimmie and Spook and the Doggies for me!

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥
