And Now....for Something Completely Different

Yesterday, while working at the de Young, I FINALLY had the opportunity to venture into the Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibit - alone - to photograph some of his astounding, sometimes shocking, but always intriguing and often gorgeous designs.  I have been a fan since 1987 - when I purchased a Bronzed Lame Double-Breasted Blazer of his (with Turquoise Buttons)... he is, of course, well known for the creation of his cone-shaped bras and corsets, which Madonna wore on her "Blonde Ambition" tours.

One of the interesting and innovative creations at this exhibit - are the talking, blinking Mannequins!  I love them.  There is even one of Jean Paul!
You step up to one...and their eyes open - and VOILA - they talk

And now....here are some of the many *still* photos I took yesterday before the crowds were let in.... I hope you open your imaginations and enjoy....

Jean Paul....the Boy..

His *first* Model, his Teddy. wearing his *first* cone-shaped bra!  Mon Dieu!

The *Man*

Part of his *Russian* Collection....when I was in my 20's-30's..and yes, even 40's...I would have worn this!

My FAVOURITE dress in the entire show....  this is my kind of Cheetah.....and nothing was killed!

One of the Talking Mannequins...

This is a Hat!  Hmmm...I could wear it to the opening night of SF Opera  IF we were doing "The Flying Dutchman".... but, we're not.....hey....though...in the Autumn, we're having "Moby Dick"..... a *Captain Ahab* special!  A-ha-ha!!!

And....you see, he does do some tailored clothes too!  I love these two ensembles!

Oooh .. la-la...Corsets - for Women AND Men!

Madonna wearing one...

And...here are two of the ones she wore on tour..

How about this one for a *Special Occasion*!  A-ha-ha!

Last....as in most Coutiere Fashion Shows....the Bridal Gown.....as only Jean Paul does it!

I had a great time shooting all of this.....  I hope you had fun looking at it!

Love,  ♥ Robin ♥

And....a postscript on the de Young Mallards....they weren't there yesterday...so I guess they decided NOT to hatch their ducklings in the fountain.....however, I was at Stow Lake on Saturday and *met* seven adorable Goslings and their parents!

Au Revoir mes Amies! ♥♥

  1. Oh Robin. You are such a great combination of sophisticated and earthy! Wow. those fashions were amazing. And the talking mannequins. Wow. A little like Voki. I think I would veer toward the tailored items though as I dont look good in fancy clothes. but oh so elegant.

    and the goslings are adorable!

    1. Suki....you are amazing...because you understand both sides of me so well! I have always loved high fashion....and once, I lived a life that took me into that world....
I am in awe of a talented designer - as I am of a painter or sculptor...

These days....as you know..my life has become very quiet...and I spend my days in the realm of Nature...
I love it...it helps sustain me emotionally....but it is a treat to see what still goes on in Fashion! (And yes, I wouldn't wear any of these designs - except for those tailored ensembles.......well...actually I WOULD wear that Cheetah-print Gown if I was invite to somewhere plush!)

I have a lot of respect for Monsieur Gaultier...those Mannequins were incredible...so innovative...so fun!

When I saw the Goslings....I couldn't believe how sweet they were...all *peeping* away.... the parents let me come close and I was able to feed them bread... it was thrilling to see Spring Babies!

      Love,

  2. Interesting designer..Are those real people or just mannequins? if not a real woman how did they do it to look so real? Kind of spooky. Love the goslings. I haven't seen any here yet.

    1. Cris...those are artificial Mannequins.... but they are computer-programmed so when you stand in front of one, their eyes open..they blink, they smile - and they talk! There are about 25 in the exhibit - including one of Gaultier...it's a riot!

Oh those Goslings.... so adorable....I am sure you will see some soon! I'm waiting to see some Ducklings! Isn't Spring grand!

      Love,

    1. Hi Pam!!! Oh yesss....I can see you wearing that hat! (We can add a small Skull & Crossbones Flat to the top!)

I love to see innovation - in any genre... and it was a treat to see Gaultier's creations!

    1. Hi CS... I'm glad you found my post interesting...I know Gaultier's designs are not for everyone...but I have always been fascinated with the way a true designer's mind works....Gaultier is rather like the Dali of our times in fashion.

Ah...but I KNEW you would love the Goslings!!!!

      Hugs,

  5. Fabulous showing! My best friend and her daughter are very into fashion, especially Haute couture. The daughter even graduated from FIT in NYC. LOVE the teddy, although his gender confusion would be better understood in these times!

Funny about the fake owl. Hubby actually just purchased one yesterday. Apparently one has to keep moving them around...we'll see how THAT goes! **blows kisses** Deb

I'm glad you enjoyed Gaultier.. how wonderful your daughter is interested in fashion...

You are so right about Gaultier's Teddy....I thought the same thing....but now, it is really wonderful to see how many people are attending the Exhibit - especially young people!

Good Luck on the Owls!!! Keep me posted!

Hugs and Kisses right back to you!
