Birds of a Feather

I've had a busy few weeks....with *guests* from Holland and Norway.. did a LOT of climbing, walking, walking, climbing....and now, for the first time in months, my knee (remember my torn knee ligament?), hurts.  I need rest....but it's impossible as the Water Department is in the midst of tearing up my street and replacing the Water Pipes.....  NOISY is an understatement....so, from 8-6...I must flee....
But, before I limp off into the morning, I want to share some photos of Feathered Ones I *met* these past few weeks.

Fresh (really fresh) Dungness Crab!

The Palace of Fine Arts Swans and their Six Cygnets.. 2 months old!

Hmmm...does anyone know what this fellow is?  Sized like a Blue Heron, but he's  brown and spotted!

Mama and Baby Gull on Alcatraz

Cormorants *guard* the Rock!  Sorry it's blurry...

Look closely.....I captured these Blackbirds in mid-air!  Love this photo!

Mr. Red-Winged Blackbird

Mr. Muscovy Duck

Ah, my beloved Stellar Jays......I am so enthralled with their beauty - and their intelligence!

The Jay on the right was talking to his friend....they were having a little argument about Peanuts!

I stashed some peanuts hollowed-out tree....Mr. Jay found them in 10 seconds!

Enroute to Baker Beach, this little one *posed* for me....you can't tell in this photo, but when he spreads his wings, all his inner feathers are as blue as the Stellar Jay......let me know if you *recognise* him!

Okay....the pounding outside has begun.....time to go!

HAW!

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

  1. Hi Robin, you have a great collection of bird photos. The first picture you were asking about is a juvenile Night-heron. Black-crowned I think. Hard to be sure without seeing its bill. The other looks like a juvenile Bluebird. Love that photo of the blackbirds flying. Great capture. HAW.

    1. Lisa - thank you so much for the information! You are my *Go To* Girl for Bird info! I love that *Night Heron*....and a Bluebird!
I have never seen one in SF before... there were 3 or 4 where I took my photo...so I must return and try for some photos that show their beautiful blue feathers!

    1. Suki - it really is fascinating to see how much *Wildlife* still thrives in SF!

Yes....the noise has been beyond dreadful...they are a little beyond my home now...almost at the top of the hill......so I hope the *end* is coming next week....

  4. Yes I think that is a Western Bluebird in the last shot. Great catch on the flying black birds too. You always have such great photos. Love the Stellar Jays. We have them here too. they let me know very loudly when I haven't gotten the food out early enough in the mornings for them. :)) Oh and that Muscovy duck. My Neighbors Ducklings are going to look like that when they get older. Sad. LOL They are so cute right now.

    1. Cris....when I saw your Stellar Jay sketches last week, I smiled... besides their amazing beauty -
I love their *voices*....and can now identify them before I see them!

Ah, don't say that about the Muscovies....I think they are really cool...they look like 19th Century Venetian Party Goers! The one at Stow Lake is by himself....so I wonderd if they, like Swans, mate for life.... This one was so happy to see me...his tail feathers began shaking....wish I could have captured that!

      HAW!!!!

    1. Mim, now remember, I only speak *STEllAR Blue Jay*! A-ha-ha!

Thanks for the earplugs tip....but there is so much noise and actual building shaking going on...it's too much to bear at home.... hopefully next week will be the end!!! (My knee certainly hopes so!)
