SF Opera - First Glimpse of the Sets

Rehearsals are underway for our first opera of the Autumn Season - *Rigoletto*.  I thought I would give you a preview of what some of the sets look like.

Rigoletto

i Capuleti e Montecchi (The Capulets and Montagues)

Moby Dick

                 Lohengrin

(This one makes me very nervous....PLUS....I don't see a Swan - which plays a prominent role in the Opera...)

Tosca
Do you have a favourite?

Must dash off to another *Rigoletto* rehearsal....more to come soon!

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

  2. Ohhhh Rigolleto!!!! How fabulous Robin!! One of my ALL TIME faves (as you know I am a bit of an opera philistine with my preference for the fluffy Italian stuff). I have finally managed to integrate your posts into my Google Reader list which is just great because at least now I am reminded to pop by from time to time. Sending you a big hug and somehow I sense things are on the up for you in general. I hope I am right because it lifts my heart to think so. XX Jos

    1. Jos, OMG! You *found me*...now we can stay in touch! You, a *Philistine*.......NEVER! Although I am a *Wagnerite*...I love the Italian genre too.... and *Rigoletto* is an all-time favourite! (In fact, the FIRST Opera I ever saw.....at 8 years old!) It is not *fluffy*..but Verdi at his finest, darkest...

Yes, you are right...my life has lightened and strengthened... not perfect, but far better than a few years ago. And...I know it is for you too!!!! This pleases me so much!!!

      Stay in touch!!!!

      Love,

      ♥ Robin ♥

    1. Suki..... yes, it's ALL about drama! I guess that's why I love Opera so much...so many parrallels to our lives!

And you have astutely selected my two favourites for the season....*Moby Dick* and *Lohengrin*...

Still....*Rigoletto*...(now, having seen it 3 times)..is really thrilling!!!

Love to you and the adorable Bibitty,

  4. Gorgeous sets~~I always find it magical how a bare stage can be turned into ANYTHING with a good crew.
Utterly amazing...would love to watch it all in the works.

    1. Anne...yes, yes... you understand! One of the MANY things I love about Opera...is just that...a bare, blank stage....then comes the set...then the chorus, the orchestra, the principal singers....and...voila!.....MAGIC!

How I wish you could come to see it all unfold....perhaps next year!!!!

    1. Marianne...you are right! All of the photos (except for *Rigoletto* - which we are now rehearsing, and *Tosca* - which we own) are from other productions. The sets are just arriving now....

I'm hoping I will enjoy them all too.. especially *Moby Dick* and *Lohengrin*!

    1. Amanda! Dear *Twin* - you are back! I have missed you! I must go and visit your blog as soon as I comment!

Yes...*Moby Dick* is a relatively new opera - by Jake Heggie. It debuted in Houston - 3 years(?) ago to great acclaim..and has now been produced in Sydney and San Diego. We are LUCKY to have it...I am eagerly awaiting the first rehearsal (Sept. 19th)....will give you a report then!
