Enid Arrives in San Francisco and "Young at Art" Photos

Despite the arrival of what I call "The Mini-Winter", where the foggy skies take up "permanent residence" 24/7 from May to August, it was a lovely weekend. First, the wonderful Enid (courtesy of Pam of Yorobobo) arrived, She was made welcome by some of my "Froggy Friends". I ♥ Enid! Thank you Pam!

I volunteered at the de Young too - and was delighted to find a temporary exhibit entitled "Young at Art" which displayed art (in all mediums) from San Francisco Public School children. The finalists will have their work displayed in Washington DC. Their ages varied from 5 - 18. I was astounded at all of the wonderful creativity. It gives hope for the future of Art...and of Artists.

These ceramic "Froggies" were created by 6 year olds. I wanted to capture them all in one shot...but probably should have come in closer so you could see the marvelous detail!

This wonderful painting, a finalist, who will be exhibiting in Washington DC soon is 16 years old. (The photo is hanging on a wall - I had no option but to shoot directly upwards.)

Last, I adore this SF mural - a group project by 5 year olds....they really captured the San Francisco Skyline with a real sense of style and flair!

Outside the de Young, the "Only in San Francisco" "Bay to Breakers" Race was run yesterday. Many actually 'ran' the race, many more 'walked', skipped and drunkenly 'staggered' through.

We had to turn away a few would-be intoxicted "Patrons" who wanted in to the Museum, wearing ONLY a set of Viking Horns. NOT a pretty sight....and no, I didn't photograph them.

Bravi to all the young artists featured above! Isn't it heartwarming to see their work?

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

  2. Adore these beautiful artworks. such fun. you know, we can click on yr photos to enlarge--so I enlarged the frogs. The painting of the girl is just lovely.

Never heard of this drunken, naked run!! A true mockery of the seriousness of the Boston Marathon for example and others.

Thanks Robin for a taste of urban culture and counter culture.

  3. Wow, what cool art!! Yay kids!! And yay Pam for sending you Enid, she is totally awesomely cool (sez a Californian, like, so it's, y'know, OK to write like that).

Please let SukiPoet know that the B to B race is always like this, and is world-famous for being the irreverent (yet for some runners totally serious) marathon of our land. Glad you made it through the traffic detours to the Museum OK; I remember how it was when I lived in SF (4 thousand years ago).

    Trixie sends love too,
    xo, Dustin

  5. Anne, yes, I was impressed with the talent of the really young children.... and also, their teachers. These days, when so many art programmes are nonexistent in the schools and teachers so underpaid, the creativity and leadership of the teachers was a ray of hope!

  8. Mim, it WAS a crazy day..... I probably SHOULD have photographed the naked men wearing the Viking Helmets -... or, well, second thought, no....it wasn't a pretty sight! ;)

But, the art sure was.... and that 16 year old was certainly deserving of being a finalist.

    Love,

  9. Thanks for visiting. Love the children's mural in such gorgeous colours.

Yes the frogs are delightful. It's so good to see children being creative instead of having the 3 Rs crammed into them for exams.

  10. Hi Robin! Oh, Enid is deliriously happy with your froggies. :) The art is fabulous - so much new talent coming our way! xox

  11. Melanie, so nice you stopped by for a visit.
Yes, we need our children to learn their "three R's" - but also to paint, sing, dance......being comfortable in the World of Art enables them to do everything else well!

You are one talented lady - and I admire you a lot. (Love the doggies too....)

    Hugs,

  12. Pam.... I LUV Enid so... had some friends over for coffee and they all thought she was WONDERFUL! (Of course, Enid was in her element and adored the compliments! Now, I have to ensure the Frog Princes don't turn green with jealousy....oh wait, they ALREADY ARE Green! A-ha-ha!)
