"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

Protecting Our World...and It's Innocents

I came away from the wonderful Allegra's blog with such admiration for her strong stance on people participating to let the Government know that we, as citizens, are NOT happy with the recent "natural" disasters that have occurred. (The tragic mining disasters in West Virginia and Kentucky and the beyond-catastrophic oil rig explosion, which not only killed men whose bodies will never be recovered, but, is now bringing death and ecological havoc to the Gulf Coast.) This will ultimately affect all of us - but now, the most innocent - waterfowl, birds, plants, sealife - will die in the thousands.....perhaps more.

I am NOT, by nature, a political person....but, if we don't all start voicing our sentiments to Obama and his staff, nothing will ever be done.... our beautiful planet is in peril.

I was not strong enough to post a photo of an oil-covered bird.... but it won't be hard for you to find plenty of them in the news or on-line. Instead, I have opted to show some new residents in my neighbourhood......baby Sparrows... listening to their joyous chirping (in chorus with my Mockingbird and the ever-present Ravens and Finches) brings great pleasure..... I know it is a different scenario down in the Gulf now.

  3. Thank you my dear Robin, if those of us who care about what happens to those who have no voice and can do something about it, maybe the world we will leave behind would be the one we dream for all the children who have to depend upon the choices of those who are in charge of the future for a sane and healthy planet. Accountability is the only answer and to stop the greed that creates nightmares such as this can only be achieved when we join forces to make those responsible answerable for their misdeeds. You are a dear soul that cares, and in the world plagued by indifference you are a breath of fresh air.
    Hugs from here.

  4. Thank you for posting this Robin, and thanks to Allegra for her passion and caring as well.
I'm a member of the Audubon Society and yesterday I got an email from the president of the local chapter telling of ways we can helps the birds, etc. If everyone has a moment, please go to the National Audubon Society web site to see the links that are listed for the many ways to help.

This quote is from Frank Gill, interim president of the NAS.
"Birds are key indicators of the environment in which they--and we--live, eat and breathe.
Their health and decline eventually mirrors our own,and the diagnosis this week isn't looking very good."

KJ and I were saying the other day that Mother Earth is wounded. She's not very happy and it's apparant every single day.

We're all custodians of the planet as long as we're on it. We must do our part. Incrementally it all adds up to make a difference.

    Thank you, dear heart.

    love,
    Lo♥

  5. Ah, KJ, this is truly a frightening situation... as Allegra says, if we all don't begin to voice opinions, things will continue on the destructive path we travel. We MUST care - for future generations - both animal and human.

  6. Anne, it isn't just the birds - but the entire eco-system that will now begin to pay the price. And ultimately, we will too.

    XXXOOO,

  7. Dear Allegra, thank you so much for your wisdom and for your courage to bring this tragedy to the forefront. If every blogger from ALL our group sends an e-mail, it will be a small beginning....

  8. Lo, well said! I hope every one visits the National Audubon website.... we can make a difference... it is OUR planet and if we don't help to save it, who will?

  9. Thank you so much for posting this! You are so right that we all need to make the politicians know that this is not OK. They have us feeling guilty if we don't use the newest light bulbs, but in reality it's the big corporations that are creating environmental disasters worldwide.

I had an environmental blog for a while, but couldn't continue posting on it. Doing all the research was just too depressing. But more importantly, very few people cared enough to read it or comment on it, so I felt it was all in vain anyway.

Good for you! I'm glad you've reach some people with this post.

    Hugs and love,
    xoxoxo

  10. Thank you Dearest Angela,

DO NOT GIVE UP! I know those of us who are now "family" thanks to Renee can still do SOMETHING to help save our world. It is not a foolish dream.....but a real one. Every caring and beautiful person - such as YOU - does make a difference.

    Sending you many hugs!

    Love,

  11. I cant even bear to look at the oiled birds and wildlife. I am not political either, but appalled at big business' carelessness, both in the mine disaster and here not to mention the economy.

Thank you for this sweet bird picture. And interesting the quote on your new banner. I know I should know it too. The Violet Hour.

    Thanks Robin. Love, Suki

  12. Suki, thank you for noticing my new banner....it's fun to play a sunset - then making it YOUR OWN SPECIAL one.

I am ashamed to tell you I don't know the author of "The Violet Hour". I keep journals where I write down any poem I come across that has great meaning to me....I used this in 2008, on my Christmas Cards.....the last pure happy day of my life... and I didn't write the author's name..... when I began my blog, it seemed the perfect choice.

Still smiling at the beautiful flowers on your post today.

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥
