You know, it just has been one of "those" weeks... between trying to interview for jobs and managing the SF Opera Coffee Volunteers.....the hours fly....(where to, I am not sure).... but, I DID have an "Animal Wednesday" post.....and here it is...
One of the many, many things I miss about the East Coast are the "Fire Flies" or "Lightning Bugs".... the first time I ever saw them (as a child), I was enchanted. And I still am. I miss their haunting beauty - and this little video has just the right musical accompaniment. For those of you who recognise these "bringers of light and mystery", enjoy.....for those of you who have never experienced their "magic" - I hope that one day you will.
Love,
♥ Robin ♥
Thank you so very much for the awesome comment you let me on my kitty blog. It felt like the warmest 'hug' ever!
ReplyDeleteThere are many things I miss about Oregon (Juncos are one of them) but I know I will miss the fireflies here in Virginia when (and if) I move back to the West Coast...
I didnt realize fireflies were an east coast specialty! Hard to catch and hard to photograph too. I saw some giant ones the other night. They are truly magical. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen one, having lived my whole life on the West coast. I hope one day I will have the honor. Thank you for sharing this.

Teri, how sweet that you came to visit!
ReplyDeleteI meant what I said.... you are a wonderful person - to animals and humans alike!
It IS sad (yet wonderful too) that different parts of the country have different species....it is an incentive to travel and explore!
Many hugs back to you and your "Furry Brood"!

Suki - it is true! Fireflies reside only in the Mid-west, Southern and Eastern States.... it is far too cold in the West.... the first time I ever saw one, (I was about 5), I ran after it and "caught" it. I will never forget how it glowed like a little magic lantern in my hand.... BEAUTIFUL! You are so lucky to be able to look out your window and see these tiny bringers of light!
ReplyDeleteLove,
♥ Robin ♥
Anne, you WOULD love seeing them.... they glow in greens, reds and golds.... among the most magic of creatures!

Robin, for some reason I'm unable to get the video at KJ's. I'll look forward to some 'magic time' once I get home, although it is quite magical here at "The Magic Cottage."
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were pleasantly surprised by the mail today ;)

Love,
Lo
I thought of you last night when I went to the garden in the evening and the fireflys were out - big giant ones, flashing away. it was wonderful to watch.
ReplyDeleteLo, I was MORE than pleasantly surprised!
ReplyDeleteAh, you have been INSIDE the "Magic Cottage".... how wonderful! But then, you should be quite at home among magical settings - since you are a bringer of magic, yourself!
Hugs to Stella and you!
Love,
♥ Robin ♥
Ah, Mim..... I can ALMOST see them - flashing away in the darkness.... truly, is there anything more wonderful and mysterious?
ReplyDeleteSending you love,
♥ Robin ♥

We had a little lightening bug stuck in the house the other night. You should have seen me running around, trying to take a picture of him! He showed up as a neon dot! I wanted to put him back outside, but could never catch him. They are enchanting!
ReplyDeleteAlexiev, muchas gracias for your warm wishes!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you enjoyed the video.

Willow, I CAN envision you trying to "steer" the little "glimmering one" out.... here's hoping he finally found his way...
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed enchanting!
