I thought about including a video clip of the march, but instead decided to show you how we go about changing the set from one opera - "The Marriage of Figaro" to "Aida". (Speeded up, of course....)
It's always a bit sad when the seaon ends.... months of hard work, a little stress, unbelieveably gorgeous music...... and then, poof - it's over until May, when the Summer Season begins. But....we celebrate after the curtain comes down with the "infamous" Orchestra Vodka Party! (Da, da..) There are several Russian-born orchestra members and they bring every kind of delicious Russian food you can think of....plus......many, different flavours of "Vodka"!
It's a feast for sure....with many laughs and shared backstage stories...a wonderful way to say Adieu, Au Revoir, Tschuss, Ciao, Dasvidania!
And, I had to have a photo taken with one of the "Egyptian Priests" with his bare chest, gold lame hooped skirt and blue eyeshadow! (All designed by the amazing Zandra Rhodes. See my post from September.)
So, no more Opera posts from Moi until May....when we begin rehearsals for the complete "The Ring of the Niebelungen".....
Love,
♥ Robinskaya ♥
I think you need the gold skirt and he needs the pants!! hahaha! Great photo!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you survived the vodka party :P
I know you get a bit blue when opera season is over. I'll try to keep your spirits up!
xoxoxo
lo♥♥
Obviously this brings you much joy. Now to have it to look forward to again...what will you do in the meantime?
ReplyDeleteWe will be at the de Young on the 17th! Hope to find you there!
Woo-hoo!! Nice legs on those Egyptian captains. I'll miss your newsy opera posts, Robin!
ReplyDeleteI don't drink "wodka" but I love a party, even tho these days I barely remember how to party. When you come I will make you a Parfait Amour Martini with vodka instead of gin as I make mine and you are going to fall for it - not because of it - as the color of the Martini is the most romantic, perfect... lilac.
ReplyDeleteBarry took something to the PO yesterday, this time for real (I am still wondering if the rest of the packages really made it to the recipients the last time or are they going to fall on my head a year from now from some forgotten shelf...sigh)so I know you should get it soon. And yes, Pauline and Richard are the very best the Universe has to offer, I wish you would have been here Saturday.
Much love as always, stay warm.
Oh man, oh man! That video should bring many new people in to the Opera House, it's so cool!! yay! XO and thank you for a great backstage experience for all of us humble food-slaves,
