Tsunami Surge in Northern California

I know this is NOTHING compared to what the people of Japan have (and are still currently) gone through....but this morning, for the first time in my life - we, in SF and a bit further in Santa Cruz, experienced a Tsunami Alert.  Here are some of the images..... 20 boats sunk, 100 boats damaged - one person swept out to sea.

I was in San Francisco for the 1989 earthquake....but the one in Japan yesterday was 100 times as strong.

Here in SF - not too bad...but you can definitely see the powerful surge....below.... amazing to think that these waves originated in Japan.

But.....to leave you with a smile...here are our "infamous" SF Sea Lions.....only a little perturbed by the rocking AROUND!

Please keep the people across the world who have been affected by this in your prayers. It all reminds me of the classic

apocalyptic movie "On the Beach".

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

  1. Robin, it was a stressful day here too. We are at sea level and about 2 blocks from the ocean. The tsunami warnings ended only this evening. Slo county had evacuations and we waited to see if we would have to also.
But it all started last night when i watched the live footage of Japan. Unbelivable. My prayers are there.

  2. I have many colleagues in Japan and we've been so worried about them. Got word that they are safe but it's so scary - My brother is in SLO country but on high ground so he was OK. It all just keeps reminding us that this earth is one big organism - what happens in one area affects us all in some way.

  3. Thanks for these videos. Glad your effects were minor in SF. Sending prayers to all in Japan and all others effected.

It is amazing but again a reminder, as Mim says, that we are all connected. And also that so much is out of our control, like Mother Earth herself. She will do what she wants and needs to do despite what we humans would prefer.

Love the sea lions. So cool the way they all sleep together like that.

  4. I got home too late to call last night, but I was thinking of all my CA friends. And Japan, my God how devastating. I know the world will come together in their time of need. Incrementally, dollar by dollar, donations will help in many ways.
I can't even imagine the number of human and animal lives lost or changed forever.

Yes Mim, we ARE one big organism, and yes Suki, Mother Earth is out of control. I always believe she's angry when things of this magnitude happen.

Prayers and (((♥))) for all affected.

  5. The devastation in Japan is incredible...my prayers are sent to all the affected areas. I was concerned for my family on the Island; thankfully the surge was very small here.

I'm so glad you're safe, Robin...I thought of you as the news of Crescent Beach reached us. Take care and stay safe! xo
