"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

Winter....not gone yet..

It  has been and "interesting week" weather-wise in the Bay Area.   First - the smaller version of the Tsunmai - then a week of rain, rain and more rain!  Yesterday's storm was intense....  there even was a tornado watch in San Mateo,  (This is as rare as an earthquake in Iowa!)  No tornado arrived - but - there was a water spout at Ocean Beach  which was captured on film!   Looking out to the GG Bridge from my office on the 43rd floor, the rain was bouncing off the windows and glacier-like sides of the building like little pellets of ice. It was quite beautiful.  Last night - the storm raged on - with thunder and lightning (as rare as an earthquake in London)...but, in between thunder claps, I was able to see the moon peering out between the black clouds....  GORGEOUS! Tonight, I will miss the closest full moon in 19 years as we are expecting (wait for it).....     - another HUGE STORM....60 mph gusts.....  so, for those of you who have clear skies tonight - look up and enjoy the splendour for me!

Love,

A Waterlogged Robin

  2. I found you on Suki's blog. I guess we are "neighbors" of sorts...I live in the Sierra Nevada Foothills and we have had the same winds, rain AND snow (yesterday) that it seems SF is experiencing. I, too, am sad that I missed that lunar event. We were covered in clouds all night but it was still so bright and bounced off of the white snow-covered ground. Glad to meet you!

  4. I talked to my friend in carmel Valley tonight and she said last night's storm was a doozey! The thunder and lightening lasted at least 40 minutes and shook her tiny house. The weather sure has been crazy this year so far.

I did see la luna tonight but my camera really let me down! I have NO idea why I can't take night shots, either indoors or out. I tried every setting until my little fingers froze while emma waited in the car. I set out to "shoot the moon" and I did, but not so successfully! But I glowed in the light of it and that's all I needed. I so wanted to share it though. Maybe I still will. Hopefully Lori will get a good shot if it's not stormy there. (It must be though.)

I did hear about that water spout in the video. So cool to see from afar!

    MUWAH!

  6. Hello teri - and thank you for visiting! Yes, we ARE neighbours! I hope last night wasn't as intense for you as it was for me! Those infamous words "It was a dark and stormy night" were appropros for us in SF!

    Spring IS coming!!!

It is wonderful to meet you too!

  7. Hi Suki! Did you like "The Ice Storm"?
I found it a compelling example of suburban life in those times.. and of course the actual Ice Storm made me think of you last one!

I HOPE you saw that moon!!!!! It makes me feel better to know you, Lo and Amanda saw it....

    Love,

  9. Sending you love from both of us and the furchildren. Thank you for being there. My arm is still a problem but it is easier to type with my new toy. It hurts tho, so I won't abuse it.
I just wanted to say hello and we love you!

  11. always my favorite, i taught this to eight graders:

'The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon the cloudy seas
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor
    And the highwayman came riding,
    Riding, riding,
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.'

i have deep respect for storms and winds; if i can feel relatively safe, i sometimes even venture out in them, and if i don't, i appreciate feeling dry and snug. good that it's been a weekend, robin, and i hope you stay dry!!

you've had entirely too much rain!

    love

  13. Hi Bimbimbe! Your good wishes brought me a little luck! Last night, the rain stopped - and although skies were filled with dark clouds, La Luna DID peek through and greet me!
    Gorgeous! Your photo was breathtaking!
