"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

Addendum to *Heart*

Reviews (so far) have been mixed....but that is pretty much what we expected. This opera requires one to feel with one's heart, not one's brain.
And *critics* are paid to be harsh...the public, though, is deeply moved and that's what counts.  Tomorrow will be the second performance.....we'll see how it goes.

I finally managed to locate a photo of Koa, the Golden Retriever, on stage during the last act..... he has two scenes....and during each scene, when he appears, the audience goes.."Ahhhhhhhhh"....and when he exits - he rates applause!

And.... a Curtain Call Photo - the composer, Christopher Theofanidis, centre stage as Director, Conductor and Cast look on and applaud.

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

  1. I think it might become an American classic. Koa is so sweet.

  2. Ah cute dog. A shame about the Critics. I usually dont agree with critics. What do they know about how I feel about something. Thanks for your best wishes for Annie. She is doing amazlingly well.

  4. if it's getting mixed reviews then it sounds even more intriguing to me!!

btw robin - i had lunch yesterday with a dear friend who is a psychiatrist and we were talking about how each human basically focuses on their own world, and she said she had heard the phrase "we are all only spear-carriers in everyone's else's opera" and i said i MUST tell this to my friend in san francisco - she will love it!!

sending love from one of the spear-carriers in your opera who thinks you are divine!

  5. oh amanda's psychological metaphor! i made me think, though it wouldn't be a spear i'd be carrying in anyone else's performance. (well, okay, a few exceptions.)

this photo is so tender. such a beautiful golden. is this a one time gig for him, robin, or is he a card carrying actor?
