Animal Wednesday - The Lark Ascending
No *real* animals today.
I did take a hike the other day....but didn't capture anyone! Today, the sky is beginning to darken, clouds are forming and we in Northern California are waiting for a real Winter Storm. I have been in a very pensive move this week....and somehow, this beautiful piece of music by one of my most beloved composers, Ralph (pronounced Raife) Von Williams....compelled me to share it with you.
The second video shows a real Lark.....I wish he was *ascending* - but - he is singing beautifully! Enjoy.
HAW!

Rain has descended upon us today. Been raining steadily all day and they said it will for the rest of the week. yikes. but at least its warm. We really needed it tho... Love the lark singing. Lots of little birdies have been scampering around out back after the food I threw them. Sounds so cool. Something I missed when living in SO CAL.. we didnt have many.
ReplyDeleteLovely music Robin!
ReplyDeleteHad to look him up because I have never heard of him before......:( shame on me.
His music reminds me of Debussy, one of my favorites :)
Thanks for showing me the lark also. Learned 2 new things here again :)

have you read Willa Cather's The Song of the Lark? The music and birdsong are lovely. Pensive moods are sometimes fruitful. Out of the melancholy arises the lark.
ReplyDeleteI have been a bit pensive myself. ah....
hope you dont get too much snow.
Cris....we are STILL waiting for the rain....the sky is cloudy, the wind is blowing, the temperature is rising *from 30 to 50*....but no rain.... charts show is it about 2 hours North....
ReplyDeleteI love the diversity of birdees up North - nd you have more than we do...still, I can tell the all know a storm is coming...lots of flying about - Gulls headed in land, Starlings and Ravens sqwaking....and yes, Sparrows, Larks and my *Cousins*, Robins....all flitting about....
Stay warm and safe!
Love to all 4,
♥ Robin ♥
Dear *M*,
ReplyDeleteI am happy you looked Ralph up! He truly is a favourite of mine..... and this piece is so descriptive of the Lark....his voice, his movements and at the very end, his soaring high into the sky and disappearing into the clouds.
Thinking about the beautiful Troelie. .....

Dear Suki...yes, I read that years ago.... it was inspiring to me - and also fateful....as it contains two themes deep to my heart - Wagner and New Mexico. A powerful, powerful book.... I like Willa Cather a lot...but that book, in particular, resonates deeply with me.
ReplyDeleteE-mail coming to you soon.....
Love to you and Bibs,
♥ Robin ♥
p.s. No smow here - but RAIN - and plenty of it!
Lovely music. And I"m glad your knee is getting strong enough to be out walking like that.
ReplyDeleteOh Robin, I have not heard a meadowlark in years. I just love their song! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you are waiting for a storm, then it must be coming this way also. I have been citing for two days and am way out of touch.
Hugs
Just getting out from the winter storm that hit Seattle. Hope you made it through!
