Animal Wednesday...Stow Lake in the Water...and Home in the Garden!!

Ah, a beautiful, Opera-free Wednesday!  I met my friend Carol, and we walked to  Stow Lake.

We met an ENORMOUS Flotilla of Turtles - nearly 30!  I have never seen anything quite like it! It truly was amazing to see them *asking* for bread - and Cheerios! They dived under the water when the Ducks came too close...but immediately bobbed back up...their little *teethies* chomping decisively down on our goodies!

Then *Mr. Red-Winged Blackbird* appeared....  GORGEOUS!

Last...we met *Sasha*, the Dachshund/Chihuahua mix
who LOVED SWIMMING with the Ducks!

Adorable!!!!

Home......and time to fix dinner for my Furballs!  I was a bit late....would they be waiting?

  2. What a fun Animal Wednesday post. Loved seeing all the critters. We have red winged black birds here too. Its amazing what loves bread. I am now feeding the ducklings bread and they love it. and yes I still have them for a another day or so until the owners can find something to put them in to be safe at night. They have a skunk visiting them right now. I think the kitties will forgive you as long as you feed them. :)

    1. Cris....I was astounded to discover how many *critters* love bread! I have been warned that it really isn't good for Ducks though...so that's why I now but Cheerios for them! I have seen the Turtles - and the Fish devour Cheerios - and Bread...it's amazing!

I now have 24/7 Kitty-Feeding Duties while my neighbour is on holiday..yes, they have already forgiven me...

      Love to all,

  5. The word flotilla made me think of Civil War era gunboats, and that made me picture all those turtles with cannons on their backs, and that made me smile. I wonder how many women would have imagined cannon-wielding turtles. Very few, I would wager, although such things come naturally to men.

    1. Snow....you made ME smile! I happen to love the word *Flotilla* - and yes, I had a Martial Image* in my mind...although I confess, not a Civil War one...but rather a *Spanish Armada* one.. when I saw all these turtles and the began to swim towards me, all I could think about was that epic naval battle...(1589? Just guessing..)

  8. robin, i adore red-winged blackbirds — that trill they make brings back memories of my childhood in minnesota. they love to hang out in marshes and we heard them all the time as we lived on a lake.

the dachshund chihuahua mix is quite the intrepid one!

hoping your weekend is going well, robin!
