"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

A Half-Day at Half Moon Bay

Lest you think I live and breathe Opera 24/7, I don't. Yesterday, a good friend (G) picked me up and we drove down to Half Moon Bay. (Named because it is a crescent-shaped bay located about 30 miles South from San Francisco.) The fog (which was thick and billowy here), evaporated when we reached the little harbour. (If you look closely, you can see it lurking in the distance.) Boats bobbed up and down, the abundant wildflowers smiled and waved their faces in the gentle breeze.

We had brunch, strolled the beach, picked up sea shells. (Lori, I thought of you, but alas, no sea glass was to be found. I did find some lovely bits of abalone shell in luminous shades of pink and lilac!) Later, we found a bench, sat, talked and basked in the warmth of the sun. (I know you all remember what a cold and wet Spring it has been on the West Coast.)
At one end of the harbour, we sighted a seal, sunbathing on a small floating pier... I loved the shot (you will have to enlarge it) because he was positioned with his tail slightly aloft and he resembled a mermaid (well, to me he did) - or at least a fantastic sea-creature masthead on a galleon of old....

Sigh..it was a warm and relaxing morning....something I have not had too many of this year.

Of course, this being Opera Season, we drove back in time for me to don my "little black dress", attend the Final Dress Rehearsal of "Die Walkure"....where I was able to pose with one of the "Stars" of the Opera.....but, that post is for another day.

Love,

  2. Robin, do you see me pouting? Half Moon Bay is one of my favorite places. We'd often do day trips there just for the galleries.
Look at that fog bank! It moved out just in time for you ;)
I have to say fog made me cranky now and then, especially when it stays for the summer months. It seems I've traded it for humidity!

I'm glad you had a lovely day. You deserve a million of them!

    love,
    Lo♥

  3. I am pouting with Lo, I love Half Moon Bay and it has been too many years since I was there. I also love the Seal, he does look like a mermaid if you don't look too closely :-).
Glad you had a wonderful day.

  6. Thanks for your kind comment at WM. We certainly are kindred spirits, Robin! It would be so much fun to live nearby.

I still can't get your blog to cooperate with my blogroll feed. Try this: click customize, then click settings, then click site feed. Make sure all three are set to "full". And then be sure to click "save settings" at the bottom. Let's see if that helps!

  10. Joss, so happy to see you here! And, your comment made me giggle! After "working" numerous rehearsals in jeans and sneakers, I always try to 'dress up" for the Final Dress Rehearsals.... a girl misses her stilettos and black dresses!!! I don't want to lose that part of me even though I am now alone.

    I love you, Jossie!

  11. Willow...... I could "scream".... over my site feed problem. I have tried all of these things you suggested - and nothing seems to work. I even tried (foolishly) to ask for help from "Blogger".... sometimes I wonder if someone else has the same blog name and that is the problem....it's a mystery....but then, that's sort of par for me! We ARE kindred spirits though....and it has enriched my world!

  12. Hi Robin! I'm so glad you got an infusion of sunshine. There is nothing better than sitting on a bench in the sunshine with a good friend, and watching a mermaid sun herself. Life is good, no? :) That AND opera. It all sounds very magical! :) xox! Pam
