The family of beavers that's taken up residence in Alhambra Creek downtown has expanded for the fourth straight year. A 3-week-old kit was spotted early Wednesday, paddling across the creek near its proud parents and siblings.
"I was so happy. Thrilled," said Heidi Perryman, the Martinez resident who glimpsed the furry, buck-toothed tot at 6 a.m., while making her daily welfare check on the beaver family. "
With all of the dark news of the tragedy in the Gulf, I thought I would share some brighter news with all of you. I know we are thought of as "California Crazies" by most of the world - and oftentimes, it is true....but we are also go to great lengths to preserve and protect wildlife.... There was just a radio program on Vermont NPR sabout beavers, but not about how thrilled people are to have them around, but how to get rid of them as they cause stream backups. So glad to read that people are thrilled to have these guys in the neighborhood.

Oh delight! finally some good news! Poor beavers, first we take their grounds, and then we are furious because they backup the streams where they had lived for generations, typical of our arrogant attitude toward our Mother Earth and her creatures...sigh

Suki, not only are people here happy to have them, they built special "barricades" for the beavers - so they can continue doing what they do best.."build"....but not interfere with the naatural flow of the water.
ReplyDeleteAs for "The Kid"... he did have "an accident" on stage the other night.... I guess one could say the air was filled with the "aroma of the Old West"! He's pretty adorable...and the audience loves him!
