"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

Animal Wednesday....a Day Late

I am late.....but it has been an energetic week, full of positive occurrences.....first, my hearing in my left ear is slowly (but surely) improving.....second, we have had TWO DAYS of sunshine.....
third, the wonderful Marianne and her son Felix visited Lolo and KJ and.... I had a phone call - so Marianne, Lo and I all had a chat! And...it was like we knew each other for many years.

Anway, here is my post....on the Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. Feathered Beauties who are near and dear to my heart.

There was a PBS Documentary on them...some of these clips may have come from that film. The man with the long ponytail gave them their names and their key to survival for many years. He ultimately was forced to move.....but I can personally attest the parrots are thriving and doing well on thier own. I live about 8 miles from Telegraph Hill....but the Parrots fly through the Presidio (daily excercise?) and I have often encountered them on my hikes. You can't miss them because they fly as a group - squawking non-stop as they swoop and soar. When there is sun, you can see the bright green and red feathers. And...they make it over to my street from time-to-time. They are a joy to behold....and a testament to the power of Nature and the will to survive. If you are interested, you should check out the Film on Netflix.

HAW!

Love,

  2. I know that film as well. I love the story and the fact that these birdies are thriving! I hope he knows too.

When we lived in Rhode Island 17 years ago there (believe it or not!) was a family of them here and they made it through our winters! I wonder if they're still here. I'll try to find out.

I'm so glad you were home when we called ;)
You're very special to us both.

    Yippee for the sunshine!!

    love you,
    Lo♥

  3. I would love to see them in person, i did see the documentary also. I love stories like these.

I've just now caught up on all your posts Robin, and i was so glad to hear your ear is healing! Good health is so important. And that you had 2 days of sun!, we did too, but the air is still cool and the water COLD, but no matter, the sun was lovely. I loved your post about bridges too, you made me think about them in different ways (i'm always afraid to drive over them).

I hope you keep getting better and that the fog disappears very very soon.

  4. I love this film Robin - thanks for showing it. There are some wild parakeets in Brooklyn - near where I grew up and I have no idea how they weather the winter. But they are "wild" no matter who feeds them.

thanks for all your support and comments - very very appreciated

  5. Suki, I guessed you had seen this film... believe it or not - I never had.....I knew the man was ultimately forced to move out...and you know I just cannot bear to look at any partings....it hurts too much.... but I knew the Parrots flourished because I see them so often...just a few days ago, they squwaked their way right over my house!

Fog is back....but the two days really helped!

    Love to you and Bibs,

  10. I saw that documentary. It was really interesting. It was a sad day when the guy had to move. It would be a treat to see colorful parrots flying overhead.
