"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

Wild Geese

Keeping with Mim's HAW theme and KJ's poem....here are a few beautiful moments as these lovely creatures soar.....I particularly love the shot as they pass Mont-Saint-Michael . Magical!

HAW to everyone!

Love,

  2. Isn't it magical? Who takes the video another bird? How long do they fly I wonder? If one is tired is there a signal for all to stop for a rest? Does one break from the flock and hope to catch up later? So many questions.

  5. Lynn, hello there! Thank you for stopping by!
I think being able to photograph them by plane must be amazing....I actually think they take turns at being the "Leader'....and when they get tired, they stop and rest and graze.
I don't think they break from the "gang' while they are migrating unless they are ill.

One of my favourite authors, T.H. White wrote about the young "King Arthur" and had Merlin instruct Arthur to become a great king by turning him into various animals.....so he could feel what it was like. One of the animals was a Goose and there is a charming chapter as Arthur makes a migratory flight.

Ah, I digress..... too much info! Say hello to your King Henry for me!

  9. wrobin, so much comes to mind here:

    --geese mate for life
--when one falls back or is injured, two others stay back too and offer protection and assistance
--i believe this film took seven years to make and involved hundreds of cinematographers. i was working for an independent art movie theatre in ptown when this came out and it was one of my favorite films on the big screen
--thank you so much. this is a wonderful sight

all our connections, huh, robin? no coincidences if you ask me....

    love always
