"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

Winter Robins.....Animal Wednesday

I like this song by Nelly Furtado....the words ring true for me.   Don't you love my little "red-breasted cousins"?  It's interesting to me that the American Robin is (usually) a Springtime Bird - while the English Robin is a Winter Bird.  Legend has it that the Robin tried to stop the bleeding of Christ on the Cross - and that is why his breast is red...  I always found that to be a poignant tale.

Stay warm everyone! Enjoy these last few days before Christmas.

HAW!

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

  1. I guess all the USA robins do fly south for the winter. Maybe England has a milder winter? Interesting legend, which I have not heard before. Thank you. Hope you are okay as we approach the holiday.

  2. robin -- where i have been to miss all these posts??

those light-covered boats in the Christmas flotilla are just magical......nothing like the combination of lights on the water!

and i love the robins......there was one singing to me this morning outside the groomers when i dropped mia off for her holiday beauty treatment! ;-)

i will now go read the other posts i missed.......but in the mean time i want to wish you a very happy holiday and more importantly, a New Year filled with blessings and wishes come true.

    with love,

    amanda

p.s. did you see the lunar eclipse in San Fran? It was cloudy here...grrrr!! but i felt it happening all night - kept me awake!

  3. I loved this! I think it's because I love to sing and this song (even though it's not my usual listening style) it just had me rockin' out and belting it out. It was fun! I know this isn't your usual genre of music either, but when it works, it works ;)

    love you LS,
    lo♥

  4. For some reason there are flocks of robins that stay here all winter. It's odd to me but I guess not unusual. We see them when we walk in the woods...not a lone robin but dozens!

    happy holidays robin!!

  5. We have the fiercest little robin that comes to our feeder every day. If I go too near he doesn't fly away he fluffs himself up to be as big as possible ... do you know, I think he is trying to scare me! I feel quite guilty laughing in a way but really such a small creature ... how does he think he can scare big old me? Even so I admire his indomitable heart.

Happy Christmas Robin. I hope for all good things to come into your life in 2011. xx Jos

  6. Hi Suki! It would seem my 'cousins" follow their own rules...(see Mim's comment below)....they fly South - or stay North...depending on their whim! Ha-ha! Perhaps that's why my Mum names me "Robin"....and I was named after the bird!

I am just recovering from a nasty cold....feeling better today....

    Thinking of you....

    Love,

  7. Amanda! Hello you! I know I am a difficult "bird" to find...for some reason, my blog never appears on anyone's blog roll - except Lo....

Glad you liked my Christmas Flotilla photos....and the Robins!

And...sigh.... I didn't get to see the lunar eclipse....it was clear for a few minutes before the eclipse began....and I was prepared to run up to my roof and photograph it....but...then the persistent rain clouds moved in.... and that was that! The photo on my header WAS taken in SF though.....and I had to "make it my own special colours"...
I, too, felt the lunar pull....

Sending you and yours warm loving Christmas wishes and hopes for a 2011 full of health, joy and more adventures!

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  8. Dear Lololo.... so glad you liked the song.... you know it isn't my usual type of music either...(though I am not strictly a classical lover)... but I loved the lyrics and the tune...and I thought it enhanced the video....and lastly, it conveyed how I was feeling.

    Love you!!!!!

  10. Dear Jos,

Your comment made me laugh.. I love your description of the little Robin puffing himself up....the English Robins seem to be a little larger and more slender than the American "Cousins"....but, they are lovely birds...with distinctive songs - and the colour of their eggs.....gorgeous!

You, m' dear deserve the very richest and warmest of holidays! You have made giant strides in moving forward with your life.....you continue to inspire and amaze me!

Love to you and yours - may 2011 bring us health, joy....and more beautiful music!

    Always,

    ♥ Robin ♥

I wanted to wish you a happy holiday and a lovely, prosperous and healthy New Year, Robin. How lovely to come here and read your peaceful posts...you're an incredible friend! Thank you.
