I awoke to the sound of rain patter against my roof and windows. Our first big storm of Autumn...it's grey and windy. Funny how rain can make one feel....introspective and dreamy. I am enjoying this storm - even though I have a full day planned. It's the San Francisco Opera Volunteer Luncheon, then a final dress rehearsal of "The Makropulous Case".... an opera with a touch of "Dorian Grey" about it - in that the "heroine" is a 337 year old woman (still beautiful, of course) who must make the decision to carry on with her "life" or to die. A perfect day, weather-wise, to see it!
My life, though still full of unsettling things, is warmer and stronger.... I feel that Life has returned to me - after so many months of feeling dead inside. And though Winter approaches, I look forward to it....to the smell of wood burning in a fireplace, to the glow of candles in the dark, to calls and notes from dear friends - both close and oceans away.
I hope your Sunday is a happy one - rain or shine....
I leave you with some charming words from Robert Louis Stevenson's "A Child's Garden of Verses".
' The rain is raining all around.
It falls on field and tree.
It rains on the umbrellas here,
And on the ships at sea.'
Love,
♥ Robin ♥

I woke up this morning to see a darling white climbing rose shouting at me from the second floor window. Darlow's Enigma, our feral rose as I call her, was dancing in the breeze as if waving to me. November roses, are they was is left of the summer or harbingers of the summers to come? Regardless, they are here and I wish you were too to share their white cheer.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the day, I am thinking of you and sending you hugs from here.
How funny, but I just read KJ's post about the haircut, and I mentioned RL Stevenson's Child's Garden of Verses. It was the first book of poems i had as quite a young child, and I loved them and still have the little book.
ReplyDeleteI adore your photo with the bridge peeking through the raindrops. A marvelous photo! You are good.
Have fun at all the opera events. Blessings, suki
Ah little sista, have fun in your box seats at the opera and take all the kudos that deservedly shine upon you!
ReplyDeleteSuki is right, that's a wonderful shot of the GGB through the raindrops! Wow.
Sometimes I love a good winter storm. Actually, I love storms in general, just not the personal kind ;)
Love you!
Lo♥
Oh, I remember this little verse from my childhood, and have always loved it. Fabulous shot of the rainy Golden Gate! Hope you're enjoying a lovely Sunday evening.

ReplyDeletei LOVE RLS. I have a collection of his books i've been adding to for years. at our wedding my daughter read a poem of his, and for our honeymoon one of the reasons we chose Samoa was so we could visit his final home, Vailima.
and it's so good to hear you are feeling better in your life. you so deserve it. i hope you had a wonderful weekend. and a great week ahead!

We are getting rain now too. I kind of like it actually. A little at a time. So happy to hear you are doing much better now. Time is a great healer.
ReplyDeleteDearest Allegra, that white rose must be gorgeous. White Roses are my favourites! They are both a lovely reminder of the Summer that was and also a hopeful suggestion for next year's Summer.... how I wish I could see your garden now....even as Winter's cold descends on us.
ReplyDeleteSending you and B. Loved many hugs!!!!!

Hia Robin sorry there is so much catching up to do with you. I've been working hard catching up for the week I lost to flu.
ReplyDeleteYes these rainy days make you want to snuggle down with smelly candles and a warm fire in the evenings. Good sewing weather too.
We had some bird visitors- a flock of starlings.
Great pic of you and Placi. :-) It makes you feel so honoured when you are remembered by people even though they are famous.
hi dear I read this before but somehow didn't comment.....probably I was somewhere else and thought I would do it at home.
