Yesterday, I returned to the de Young Museum after a four month absence ... currently, there is a magnificent exhibition on Rudolf Nureyev 's life. Many of his costumes are there...and of course, posters video clips and even a pair of Margot Fonteyn's pink ballet shoes...
I was delighted to see that later in the day, the museum showed (for free) the full length ballet of *Romeo and Juliet* from The Royal Ballet in 1966, featuring these two beautiful dancers.
I sat there for two hours, completely entranced....so I had to share two scenes from that famous production for you.

The choreography is Kenneth MacMillan's, 1966. The beautiful, memorable score is by Sergei Prokofiev.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
Love,

The Balcony Scene
Their Wedding Night - Waiting for the Dawn
Gosh, Robin, I think Eugene might have a ballet. I know that ballets are performed here, but it just hit me that I think we actually have our own ballet group. I don't know that it's that much better than San Francisco's, so I don't mean to put down your little city's efforts, but if you ever come to visit me, maybe we can go together, and you will be awed. As for me, it would be my second ballet.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your map of where all you've been, I laughed to think that such a map wouldn't make any sense at all in the days before airplanes. People would look at it, and say, "Hey, Robin, how'd you get to Illinois and Washington, fly? Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha."
Snow....you are on! I would be honoured to attend your THIRD ballet! Tell me, what are the first two?
ReplyDeleteYou KNOW I am not a lover of most modern inventions.....but...the phone, the pc, the airplane have all enriched my life and brought me to places I would never have seen!
I have another dear friend in Portland.....so perhaps we WILL meet in 2013!
Love to all 4,
♥ Robin ♥
so graceful and elegant. how lucky the timing for you to return and see this show and the film.!!
ReplyDeleteSuki, oh yes....I was thrilled to see I had returned at the right time! There's another wonderful exhibit - A selection of major works from the William S. Paley Collection at the Museum of Modern Art. The Paley Collection includes paintings, sculpture and drawings, ranges in date from the late 19th century through the early 1970s. Particularly strong in French Post-Impressionism and Modernism, the collection includes multiple works by Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, as well as significant works by Edgar Degas, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Gauguin, Andre Derain, Georges Rouault and artists of the Nabis School such as Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard.
DeleteI'll check it out next Sunday!
Love to you and Bibitty,
