"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

de Young Ducklings

Some of you know that I volunteer at San Francisco's de Young Museum on Sundays. Yesterday, a gorgeous and warm Spring day, as I rounded the fountain next to the employee entrance, I heard "peeping" - a lot of it. Imagine my surprise and joy when I discovered a "Mama Duck" and her 13 Ducklings! They are all fuzzy and full of energy as they begin to discover the world. At the other end of the fountain though, was a large Blue Heron - looking greedily at the babies. I was getting ready to take my shoes off and jump in to shoo him away - when he noticed me moving towards him and thankfully, flew off. (Trust me, I would have gone in the water to save these cuties!) The top photo isn't clear, but I was moving SLOWLY towards them...hoping not to alarm "Mama" too much and get a better picture. I hope you enjoy these.

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

As a kid I always loved to see the first ducklings! And I still do!

I have missed a few post here ...... I have added you to my blog list but somehow it doesn't show the latest post and it stays at the bottom.... :(

  3. robin, when i first moved here, i was sitting in my backyard and through the gate waddles a Mother duck followed by eight little ducks, all in a row. they walked past me, turned left at the fence and followed it to the end, where they ducked underneath and i'm sure proceeded to the pond in the park next door.

i will never forget the sight of all of them. it was AWESOME!

ps but can you assure me those little ducklings will be safe when you are not there to give long protective stares?

    :)

  4. oh those sweet little fuzzballs!
Thank you for protecting them ;)

Now let's see if I can click off your blog without a problem. Every single time I click off I get multiple screens that act viral. Weird!

And I love coming here ;)

  6. Marianne, so happy you ahared your duckling memories... they are wonderful! Safe flight, m' dear!

Annie, I knew you would love them!

KJ......a wonderful story! When you see them all "parading" by - it's beyond adorable! And, no, I cannot guarantee their safety... there will be constant threats from more Herons, Hawks (who have now taken up residence in GG Park), unleashed dogs and unruly kids.... but, it's Nature and Fate....I was just determined nothing was going to happen to them while I was there. My ex used to call me "St. Francine"....

Lo, oooh....sorry about the blog problem - this happens to me at times when visiting blogs too, so I don't think it's mine alone....but I do hate it! Thank you for visiting.... I'm always happy when I see you have been here!

Joss, there's nothing like babies to remind you of Spring and of the glory of Nature!

Warm Hugs to all of you!

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥
