"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

One MORE "Ring" Post

Taken during yesterday's Götterdämmerung ....the end of Cycle 2.  Pictured: the amazing Supers, our resident "Goddess", Nina Stemme (aka Brunnhilde), our *magician* of a maestro, Donald Runnicles..

I spent a lot of time up in the Balcony (known as the "nose-bleed" section yesterday......true, one cannot see much of the stage (but I have already seen it 6 times....in rehearsal and performance, so I know all that is happening visually), but, the sound , the sound is simply glorious....all of the vocals and the orchestral instruments are most strongly and clearly heard from here....

Ah, it was just amazing....

One more cycle begins tomorrow......saving a *special* photo for you all...later in the week!

Oh, the music you hear on the video is from the end of "Das Rheingold"....

Oh, Oh...one more photo... our Opera House, alight in "Rainbow Colours". This was done to celebrate "Gay Pride" Week....but it is also apropos to signify the "Rainbow Bridge" that leads *The Gods* into Valhalla at the end of "Rheingold"....

Love, from Valhalla!

  3. Anne.....trust me....you WOULD love this "Ring"....it encompasses all that Wagner wrote - but brings it home to us in 2011. And the singing......my 7th "Ring".....but the second best I have ever heard!!!! SF OPera has been taping it - so hopefully it will be out on a DVD one day - or will show up on PBS!

Love to you and Sweet Pea!

  6. A-ha-ha, Suki! Good teeth are a MUST! And..so is a good sense of HUMOUR! After 17 hours of "Sturm und Drang", one needs to let off steam afterwards and just LAUGH!!!!!!

I think YOU would have liked to see this particular "Ring"...and would even have been moved by it...

  8. The only good thing about not having visited your blog for a while Robin is that there is more to read and catch up on. I always love reading about SF opera season and I know how much of a Wagner fan you are. Sounds like the Ring is going really well and I think the pictures you've posted are fantastic. What about that painting though eh? Fabulous and with autographs too ... and extra something to treasure.

Well I have to admit I had no idea that Mockingbirds have such a variety of calls. All very lovely I'm sure but if that was going on outside my window at 3am I reckon I would fail to see the funny side of it big time! So I hope for your sake he's found a mate and quietened down somewhat.

Warmest hugs to you Robin, I've got a sneaky feeling IOU an email ... will back-track through my corresepondence pile and see to it. xx Jos

  9. Ah, dearest *Twin*...thank you for that compliment.....soon (after our *Ring* is ended), I will *prove* I AM "Queen of the Ring"! Ha-ha!

When are you going to Greece? I am concerned....

  10. Jos, dear friend..... *first* remember what we agreed upon....no e-mails *Needed*....one writes when one can...

Mr. Mockingbird has NOT yet found a mate....but interestingly enough, he now begins singing at 5:00 a.m.! (Thank you!)
Still, even when he awakens me....I just have to smile when I hear him. He is just what I need (even at 5:00 a.m.) in my life...

As for Opera.....YOU KNOW.....I adore Wagner, I adore everything he wrote....but to be privy to such a GREAT "Ring" - with countless bonuses, I am a HAPPY GIRL!!!!

We'll e-mail soon....I have five more "Ring" Days.....then, life will slow down.

I DO think of you daily - and send love and strength....something we both need right now.

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥
