"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affectations glow and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn."

Christmas in the Valley of the Moon

My first Christmas in four years spent in the company of wonderful friends Joyce and Mimi!  The weather was cold, wet, windy - but the Valley of the Moon (in Sonoma) is full of Winter Beauty!

My TWO WONDERFUL Hostesses - Joyce and Mimi!

*Come on, Mimi, pose for Robin*!

Mimi says *You take too many photos - I want to go out for our walk - NOW*!

Mimi ADORES tennis balls...she can play *fetch* for HOURS!  (Really!)  Here she is thinking...*Toss me that ball now*!  This was one of her gifts - the green side of the ball says *Nice* and the red - *Naughty*!

Mimi *impersonating the Spinx*.

Some of you might remember that when I visited in Summer, I came across a Woodpecker hard at work digging holes in his tree....  well, I decided to revisit him to see if he was still there.

At first, the tree looked barren and lonely... but as I was photographing it, imagine my surprise when a Woodpecker flew out of a deep hole in the centre of the tree... he was quickly followed by two more!
I was not fast enough  to capture their emerging...it was so fantastic!  They were all angry with me though, and flew up on a street lamp across from their tree - chattering  at me!

Raindrops glistening like diamonds....

One of the many benches hand-painted throughout the area...

Of course, you know I am going to include a few Moon Photos......although La Bella Luna wasn't full until December 28th (when Marianne was visiting me - that will be my next post), I did manage a few photos.

Christmas Eve - through the clouds

Clear and Mystical on Christmas Night....

I had so much fun - I would have stayed a little longer - but - Marianne was en-route - so I dashed back to SF so we could celebrate!  More to come....

I hope you ALL had a glorious holiday....filled with the warmth and joy of family and friends.

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

  1. Beautiful post Robin! What a lovely area to visit, to photograph, and to get the woodpecker family on the lamppost, even if they were a bit on the annoyed side! Love your photos.

  2. Oh lovely pictures of a wonderful visit!
Joyce and Mimi look both so sweet!
Love that shot of the Woodpeckers!
I am home and a little rested again.
All is quiet again, the fireworks have stopped for 99%.
I think Minoes is happy that I am home again and that she can move around again.
Can you believe I was in SF?
Life is a roller coaster sometimes........

    Happy New Year dearest!

  4. I'm so glad you have a respite in Sonoma with a good friend and a good dog for company! Wonderful pics.

I love Mimi's ball. haha, naughty and nice! She's so typical of a heeler.

I'm sure that tree is full of holes stuffed with acorns. Those woodpeckers are so damaging to roofs/houses, but even if I were a home-owner I would welcome them :)

    Happy New Year, LS.

    Love you!

  6. Mimi reminds me of Our Border Collie Annie. she LOVES her ball and drives you nuts to throw it. I think Mimi gets that from the Border Collie side. :) Her mama was the same only it was sticks she wanted tossed. Glad you had a fun time with your Friend..s...:)
